![]() Since then I have only owned jon boats of several different sizes but all were tiller models. ![]() When I had my saltwater boats 20 years ago I had depth finding unit on them and would use them all the time but when I sold those boats I started getting back heavy into freshwater again. This will also give me a chance and see if I will really use it, I am so set in my ways on pounding the bank I don't know if I can change but I know I should. ![]() Now I might may be able to squeeze in a decent DI unit now and then hopefully upgrade to a bigger 7"+ unit with SI and DI later when my $ situation is better and then move the original unit to the bow for fishing. So it sounds like DI and SI are great to have and usable here in the shallow Florida waters which was really what I wanted to know. Also helps to guide me as to where there are points and such on the Map.īelieve me I am not an expert by no means, still learning how to use mine. That allows me to not only see what's down there but mark and know where it's at. I am able with my Garmin Echographs to make a view I want to see, so I set the Top as SI and the Bottom split into DI and Mapping. There are units that are so good at this you can actually make out the individual fish within the branches of the tree on the bottom, but they are for the most part way above your price range. Most units can be set to AUTO to change Depth Range or you can set it a specific Range and ZOOM it to see it better.ĭI is like taking a pic of Standard Sonar and making it much clearer and easier to see. The Water will be in the Center going out on Both Sides and the Land Under will be on the Far Left and Right. SI is like taking a pic of the water, then slicing it in half from the bottom up and laying it out on a table. Faster than that and you need to switch over to Standard Sonar. There are Sales that happen where you can get a very good 7 inch unit for $500 or less.Īlso know that both SI and DI only work when you are going under 7-8 mph. To small of a screen and your spending more time trying to see what you are seeing than knowing what your seeing. I have 7 inch and I wish I had 9 or 12 when it comes to viewing SI. 5"s are great fro standard sonar and DI, but you need some size to be able to see what the SI is showing you. Also if your going to get one for using SI you might as well get at least a 7 inch model. ![]()
